Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing public healthcare delivery, emphasizing its prioritization in national development.Speaking on Tuesday at the official launch of a free medical camp held at Bukedea Comprehensive School, Among expressed her gratitude for the collaboration between the Ministry of Health, Bukedea District Local Government, and the Anita Foundation. She highlighted Parliament’s support for the Ministry of Health in bringing quality healthcare closer to communities, calling it a testament to a people-centered health sector.
The camp, running until January 25, 2025, features participation from leading health institutions, including Mulago National Referral Hospital, Uganda Heart Institute, Uganda Cancer Institute, and Soroti Regional Referral Hospital. Residents benefit from free services, such as cancer treatment, heart screenings, and blood donations, easing access to specialized care.Dr. Ben Watmon, chairperson of the organizing committee, lauded the Speaker’s initiative, describing it as a critical step in bridging healthcare access gaps for underserved communities. Beneficiaries like Juliet Akayo, a cervical cancer patient, expressed hope, appreciating the chance to receive specialized care without traveling to Kampala.
