His Holiness Pope Leo XIV has appointed Rev. Fr. Bonaventure Bosco Gubazire, M.Afr., a member of the Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers), as the Bishop-Elect of Kabale Diocese, entrusting the leadership of the diocese to a priest whose ministry has spanned Africa, Europe, and Asia. Born on 3 March 1974 in Kitumba, Kabale Diocese, Bishop-Elect Gubazire began his educational journey at St. Mary’s Primary School, Rushoroza, before joining St. Paul’s Minor Seminary, Rushoroza, where he discerned his vocation to the priesthood.

In 1994, he entered the Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers) and went on to pursue higher education in philosophy, theology, ethics, information technology, and philosophy at prestigious institutions in Uganda, France, Ireland, Malawi, and the Philippines. His academic achievements include a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Religious Studies, a Bachelor of Arts in Theology, a Master of Arts in Philosophy specializing in Ethics, a Diploma in ICT System Support, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

He professed his Perpetual Vows on 7 December 2002 and was ordained to the priesthood on 10 August 2003 at Rushoroza Cathedral Parish in Kabale.Over more than two decades of priestly ministry, Bishop-Elect Gubazire has served the Church in several countries. His missionary work began in Mozambique, where he ministered as Assistant Parish Priest in the Archdiocese of Beira while also directing adult literacy programmes and serving on the council of the Missionaries of Africa in Mozambique.

He later moved to Malawi, where he served as Professor and Dean of Studies at the Lechaptois Formation House, acted as Rector, and coordinated child protection initiatives for the Missionaries of Africa.His missionary journey continued in the Philippines, where he coordinated the Friends of the Missionaries of Africa, served as a member of the Asian Provincial Council, and became Rector of Our Lady of Africa Formation House in Cebu.

Since 2021, he has been serving in Ghana as Dean of Studies at Spiritan University College in Ejisu. He currently also serves as Rector of St. Martin of Tours Formation House, a member of the University’s Academic Board, and, since 2025, as a Provincial Council Member responsible for the ongoing formation of the Missionaries of Africa in the Ghana-Nigeria Province.In addition to his pastoral and academic leadership, Bishop-Elect Gubazire is a gifted linguist, speaking English, French, Portuguese, Kiswahili, Chisena, Chichewa, Cebuano, and several Ugandan languages, including Runyankore, Rukiga, and Luganda.

His appointment marks the return of a son of Kabale to shepherd the local Church after years of dedicated missionary service abroad. Widely respected for his commitment to priestly formation, education, intercultural dialogue, and missionary evangelization, Bishop-Elect Gubazire brings a wealth of international pastoral experience and academic excellence to the Diocese of Kabale as he prepares to begin his episcopal ministry.

Ihe Holy Father has also accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the Diocese of Kabale presented by Rt. Rev. Callistus Rubaramira, for reaching the age limit, in accordance with Can.401 $1 of the Code of Canon Law. The Apostolic Nunciature desires to congratulate the new Bishop and invokes abundant blessing upon his pastoral ministry in that local Church. The Apostolic Nunciature further expresses its gratitude to Rt. Rev. Callistus Rubaramira for his generous and dedicated service during these twenty-three years as the Bishop of Kabale (2003-2026). He will remain as the Apostolic Administrator of Kabale until the duy the new Bishop will take canonical possession of the Diocese.
