Police in Amolatar District have recovered two suspected stolen motorcycles and arrested one suspect during an intelligence-led operation aimed at combating the rising cases of motorcycle theft in the district.
The operation, conducted by officers under the command of the District Police Commander, SP John Mafabi, took place between 10:00 p.m. on May 29 and 4:00 a.m. on May 30, 2026, within Amolatar Town Council and surrounding areas.
According to the North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Jimmy Patrick Okema, the operation resulted in the recovery of a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle registration number UFM 255Z and another red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle whose registration number plate had been removed.
Police also arrested Edii Ambrose, a resident of Odyak Village in Muntu Parish, Muntu Sub-county, Amolatar District. The suspect is currently being held in police custody to assist with investigations.
SP Okema said investigations are ongoing to establish the rightful ownership of the recovered motorcycles and to identify other individuals suspected to be involved in motorcycle theft within the district.
Police have expressed concern over the increasing incidents of motorcycle theft in Amolatar and called for enhanced community awareness on crime prevention and motorcycle security.
The District Community Liaison Officer has been tasked with intensifying sensitization campaigns to encourage residents to take precautionary measures to protect their motorcycles.
Police have also pledged to continue intelligence-led and routine operations targeting motorcycle theft across the district. Meanwhile, the Traffic Department has been urged to strengthen enforcement efforts by impounding numberless motorcycles and those suspected to be stolen.
SP Okema advised motorcycle owners to secure their motorcycles using effective locking devices such as U-locks. He also called upon churches, entertainment centres, and other public gathering places to provide adequate security arrangements to protect the property of their congregants and patrons, including motorcycles and bicycles.
He emphasized that intelligence operations against criminal elements involved in motorcycle theft remain active and that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
