Leaders from the Lango Sub-region have presented a set of development proposals to the government for consideration over the next five years.

The proposals were unveiled on Saturday 28th February, 2026 during a Lango leaders’ meeting convened by the Paramount Chief of Lango, Eng. Dr. Moses Michael Odongo Okune, at the Lango Cultural Centre in Lira City.

Addressing the gathering, the Won Nyaci explained that the meeting aimed to promote peace, unity, and reconciliation in Lango following the recently concluded general elections, while also engaging the government on priority development needs for the sub-region.

In his address, Odongo Okune outlined seven key development priorities to be forwarded to the ruling National Resistance Movement government, citing the overwhelming 84.4 percent vote secured by Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in Lango.

Among the proposals were calls for the appointment of legislators from Lango to ministerial positions, as well as appointments as ambassadors and commissioners. He also urged the government to scale up household development and poverty eradication initiatives, including the Parish Development Model (PDM) and the GROW Project, alongside the full implementation of cattle restocking compensation payments.

The Paramount Chief further emphasized the need for infrastructure development, specifically the tarmacking of key roads such as Dokolo–Amolatar, Lira–Alebtong, Lira–Otuke, and Aboke–Bobi, among others.

Odongo Okune called upon elected leaders to prioritize the interests of their constituents and appealed to those who lost in the elections to accept the outcome and work together with the winners for the good of the region.

Several resolutions were also adopted by stakeholders who attended the meeting.

Speaking on behalf of the clan heads, Felix Okot Ogong, the Member of Parliament for Dokolo South and clan head of Alwala, said the clan leaders had resolved to unite and work closely with the Paramount Chief in advancing Lango’s development agenda.

Meanwhile, the Rt. Rev. Sanctus Lino Wanok, urged political leaders to embrace reconciliation and forgiveness, noting that healing post-election divisions was essential if Lango was to achieve lasting peace, unity, and development.

On his part, Denis Hamson Obua, the NRM Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda and Government Chief Whip, encouraged leaders to utilize the Lango Cultural Centre as a platform for resolving regional issues, rather than always seeking intervention directly from the President.

The meeting attracted religious leaders, political leaders, civil servants, clan leaders, members of the business community, and other stakeholders from across the Lango Sub-region.
