LIRA CITY: Police in the North Kyoga Region are investigating three separate criminal cases reported over the past week, including the alleged torture of a seven-year-old boy in Alebtong District, an attempted murder linked to suspected witchcraft, and the alleged theft, abduction and rape of two young girls in Lira City.
Speaking during a weekly media briefing on Monday, North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson SP Patrick Jimmy Okema said investigations into all the cases are ongoing as security agencies intensify efforts to combat violent crime and protect vulnerable members of society.
Father Wanted Over Alleged Torture of Son
Police in Alebtong District are searching for Morris Otim, who is wanted in connection with the alleged torture of his seven-year-old biological son, identified as Oguta Ronald.
According to SP Okema, the child sustained severe injuries after he was allegedly assaulted by his father and is currently receiving medical treatment.
The incident was reported to Apala Town Council Police Station on July 26, 2026, by the child’s uncle, Daniel Aliro, prompting police to open investigations and launch a manhunt for the suspect.
SP Okema urged Otim to report to the nearest police station to facilitate investigations and appealed to members of the public to provide any information that could lead to his arrest. He warned that anyone found harbouring a suspect wanted for a serious offence could face prosecution under Ugandan law.
One Arrested Over Attempted Murder
In a separate incident, police arrested Vincent Adeki in connection with the attempted murder of Susan Alum, 33, a resident of Acede Atidi Village in Alebtong District.
Police allege that Adeki, together with other suspects still at large, attacked Alum over allegations of witchcraft, leaving her with serious injuries.
The victim was rushed to Alebtong Health Centre for treatment while detectives documented the crime scene, recorded witness statements and recovered exhibits to support the investigation.
SP Okema said efforts are underway to arrest the remaining suspects.
“We are determined to ensure that everyone connected to this incident is identified, arrested and prosecuted,” he said.
Police Investigate Alleged Abduction and Rape of Two Girls
Police in Lira City West Division are also investigating the alleged theft, abduction and rape of two young girls in Kakoge C Cell, Ojwina Division.
The incident reportedly occurred on July 26, 2026, when suspects identified as Ayuru Sarah and Arac Holiver allegedly broke into a home and stole household items, including clothes, money and school bags.
Police further allege that the suspects abducted one of the girls and raped her before fleeing the scene.
Officers later rescued the children and took them for medical examination and appropriate care. Investigators are continuing to collect evidence and record witness statements as efforts to trace and arrest the suspects continue.
Public Asked to Support Investigations
SP Okema urged members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement by reporting suspected criminal activities promptly and preserving crime scenes where possible.
He reaffirmed the Uganda Police Force’s commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society, particularly women and children, and pledged that those found responsible for the reported offences would be brought to justice.
Investigations into all three cases are ongoing.
