Head teachers across the Lango sub-region have expressed readiness to receive learners for Term II as schools reopen amid growing concern over the Ebola outbreak in the country.

School administrators say they have already put in place the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued by the Ministry of Health to safeguard learners, teachers, and non-teaching staff against the deadly disease.

Speaking to our reporter, Felix Oyang, the head teacher of Anep-Moroto Primary School in Orum Sub-county, Otuke District, said the school is fully prepared to receive pupils despite concerns surrounding the Ebola outbreak.

Oyang revealed that the school management convened a meeting with the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and the School Management Committee to discuss measures aimed at ensuring the safety of learners once classes resume.

“Although the Ebola outbreak remains a threat, we are ready to receive the learners because all the requirements recommended by the Ministry of Health are already in place,” he said.

He added that despite the school’s enrollment of more than 1,500 pupils, management is committed to ensuring strict adherence to the SOPs.

Similarly, John Abanya, the head teacher of Onyut Primary School in Alito Sub-county and chairperson of head teachers in Kole District, confirmed that schools in the district are prepared to begin the new term.

Abanya acknowledged the challenge of limited resources but stressed that schools will ensure the Ministry of Health guidelines are followed. He further noted that teachers have already been oriented on the basics of Ebola prevention and protection.

In Apac District, Walter Ekii, the Director of Studies at Chegere Secondary School, also expressed confidence in the school’s preparedness to manage students safely during the term.

Ekii said regular hand washing, temperature screening using temperature guns, and observance of other preventive measures will be strictly enforced within the school.

Meanwhile, Polycarp Ogwang, head teacher of Alemere Primary School in Amolatar District, commended the Ministry of Health and the government for issuing clear SOPs to guide the prevention and control of Ebola in educational institutions.

As Term II officially begins on Monday, May 25, 2026, the Ministry of Health has directed all education institutions to enforce mandatory preventive measures, including the installation of hand-washing facilities with clean running water and soap at school entrances, classrooms, dormitories, dining areas, toilets, and staff rooms.

The reopening of schools comes at a time when health authorities continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and observe all Ebola prevention measures to curb the spread of the disease.
