Police in Dokolo District are investigating a suspected case of murder following a domestic dispute that left a 48-year-old woman dead.

According to the Uganda Police Force in the North Kyoga region, the incident occurred on the night of February 23, 2026, at Te-Amon Village in Apeya Parish, Adok Sub-county.

The case was reported at Agwata Town Council Police Station at about 11:50 p.m. by a resident of the area. Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased, identified as Alwido Rose, had earlier received phone calls from her former husband, reportedly discussing reconciliation. Police say this is believed to have triggered a domestic quarrel with her current husband.

The disagreement allegedly escalated into violence later that night, resulting in the woman’s death. Police officers, including homicide detectives and the District Criminal Investigations Officer, visited and documented the crime scene.

The body was recovered from the suspect’s residence and taken to Lira Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination. Exhibits believed to be connected to the incident were also recovered from the scene.

The suspect, identified as Opio Denis, has been arrested and is currently in police custody to assist with investigations. Police say statements from relevant witnesses have been recorded, and the suspect will be presented before court upon completion of inquiries.

Confirming the development, North Kyoga Police Spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema strongly condemned acts of domestic violence and urged couples to resolve conflicts through dialogue, family mediation, local leaders, or lawful authorities.

Police noted that the body of the deceased will be released to relatives for burial after the postmortem and completion of all required procedures. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
