The Education Department of Lira Catholic Diocese will celebrate its 3rd Diocesan Education Week from September 22nd to 27th, 2025, under the theme: “Catholic Schools Alive in Christ, Pilgrims of Hope.”
The announcement was made during a Curia meeting chaired by the Bishop of Lira Diocese, Rt. Rev. Sanctus Lino Wanok, where the Diocesan Education Secretary, Rev. Sr. Agnes Atala MSMMC, outlined the week’s program. She emphasized that the celebration seeks to strengthen Catholic education, foster unity among learners, and highlight the holistic formation provided in Catholic-founded schools.
The Education Week will be launched by the Bishop on September 22nd with a special radio talk show. Throughout the week, schools will engage in a rich variety of activities, including football for boys and girls, netball for girls, a public speaking competition, a science fair, and a tug of war, among others.
The celebrations will climax on September 27th with a grand march through the city led by the police brass band. This will be followed by a solemn Mass presided over by the Bishop, speeches from education leaders, and the presentation of awards to outstanding schools and students.
According to Sr. Agnes Atala, the Diocesan Education Week is meant to “celebrate education in Catholic-founded schools and to bring together institutions from primary to tertiary levels in a spirit of faith, learning, and community.” She called upon parents, Curia members, and heads of departments across the Diocese to actively take part in the week-long event.
The annual Education Week, first launched in 2023, has become a platform for celebrating academic excellence, talents, and values rooted in the Catholic tradition. Last year’s edition saw schools recognized with certificates of merit, participation, and trophies.
This year, the Diocese looks forward to another vibrant celebration, affirming the place of Catholic schools as beacons of hope and witnesses to Christ’s mission in education.
