Education Week 2025 in Lira Diocese has been officially declared by the Rt. Rev. Sanctus Lino Wanok, Bishop of Lira Diocese. The annual event is scheduled to run from 22nd to 27th September 2025, under the theme: “Catholic Schools Alive in Christ, Pilgrims of Hope.”

The week-long celebration aims to bring together learners from across the diocese — including primary and secondary schools, technical and vocational institutes, and tertiary institutions — to participate in a variety of enriching activities. These include sports such as football for both boys and girls, netball, music, dance and drama, public speaking competitions, science fairs, and tug of war, among others.

As part of the activities, a seminar for head teachers and other education stakeholders within the Diocese is scheduled for Friday, 26th September, to discuss the role of Catholic education in holistic development.

 Radio Wa Talk Show Launch

The official declaration of Education Week 2025 took place on Monday night, 22 September 2025, during a live radio talk show on Radio Wa 89.8 FM. Bishop Sanctus Lino Wanok was joined in the studio by Rev. Sr. Agnes Atala (MSMMC), the Education Secretary of Lira Diocese, Mr. Bosco Caroline Oruru, Chairperson of the Education Commission, and other key stakeholders involved in organizing this year’s event.

In her remarks, Sr. Atala noted that this year marks the third Education Week since its inception in 2023, and she thanked the Bishop and all stakeholders for their continued commitment to strengthening Catholic education in the Diocese.

The talk show aimed to raise awareness among listeners in the Lango sub-region and to mobilize widespread participation in the planned activities.

Bishop Wanok’s Address on Radio Wa

During the live broadcast on Radio Wa 89.8 FM, Bishop Wanok emphasized that education is the foundation of life, expressing heartfelt gratitude to teachers, parents, learners, and all partners supporting education in the Diocese.

He reminded listeners that Education Week is more than academics; it is a time to observe the holistic development of learners. “We are witnessing how children are showcasing their talents — whether in sports, the arts, or public speaking,” he said.

The Bishop also emphasized that the week is a chance for parents and educators to recognize and nurture each child’s God-given gifts, preparing them for meaningful interaction with society.

He appreciated the government’s support for education and called on stakeholders, including the Church, community leaders, and development partners, to continue investing in the formation of young people.

Before concluding the program, Bishop Wanok officially declared Education Week 2025 open, gave his apostolic blessing, and encouraged all community members to take an active part in the week’s events.

Community Engagement and Support

Several parents called into the Radio Wa show to express appreciation to the Bishop and his team for their tireless efforts in promoting educational transformation in Lira Diocese. Many noted improvements in school infrastructure, learner performance, and moral values.

The organizing committee welcomes support from well-wishers, either in cash or in kind. Financial contributions can be sent to MTN MOMO Number 0772337553, registered in the name of Apili Anna, the treasurer for this year’s Education Week.

 A Call to Participate

All parents, students, teachers, and education stakeholders are warmly invited to actively participate in Education Week 2025. The Diocese looks forward to a fruitful and impactful celebration that promotes unity, talent development, and Christian values, ensuring that Catholic schools remain truly alive in Christ and continue to serve as beacons of hope for generations to come.
