The Head of Laity of Lira Diocese, Mr. Jovino Rose Akaki Ayumu, has called on Catholics to strengthen collaboration and commitment to the mission of the Church.
Speaking during the closure of the Jubilee Year of Mercy at Uganda Martyrs’ Cathedral, Lira, on 28 December 2025, Ayumu first asked the congregation to express gratitude to the Bishop and priests for their dedication and service to the people of God.
He announced that the Laity of Lira Diocese is set to work closely with all stakeholders in championing the mission of Christ among the people. He commended priests and men and women religious for their continued support and cooperation in diocesan activities.
Ayumu also announced an upcoming Peace and Prayer Week to be held in Lira Diocese, urging Christians to embrace the initiative and work together to ensure its success. He called for thorough preparations among the faithful ahead of the event.
He further appealed to all church associations and movements to organize themselves effectively and remain active in advancing the mission of the Church.
The Head of Laity commended the ongoing registration exercise of all Catholic Christians in Lira Diocese, encouraging the faithful to continue participating. He urged Christians to support the mission work of the Church by subscribing to the registration fee of one thousand shillings(1000 UGX) required for the exercise.
Ayumu revealed that he and his team will soon unveil the key activities planned for 2026, noting that details will be shared during a live radio talk show on 89.8 FM Radio Wa.
He concluded by reminding the congregation of the forthcoming election season, emphasizing the need for Christians to elect leaders of moral integrity who will support the Church and uphold its values.
