Preparations are in full swing as Lira Diocese gets ready to host the 2026 Provincial Peace Prayer Week in Lira City.
In an interview with Radio Wa, the Diocese’s Justice and Peace Coordinator, Rev. Fr. Douglas Owera, confirmed that this year’s gathering known as the Ganal Prayer Peace Week will take place at Lango College playground from April 3rd to 8th, 2026. The event will be held under the theme “Peace Be With You,” drawn from John 20:18.
Fr. Owera highlighted that this year’s celebration marks the 20th anniversary of the Ganal family, which brings together the dioceses of Gulu Archdiocese, Arua, Nebbi, Lira, and Kotido.
He explained that the main focus of the gathering is to promote peace through prayer, foster reconciliation, and strengthen community-based peace building efforts. He encouraged everyone to take an active role in promoting peace within their communities.
Fr. Owera also noted that parishes across Lira City are actively preparing to welcome and host pilgrims who will attend the event. He called upon the faithful and the general public to participate in large numbers during the week-long prayers.
The upcoming Peace Prayer Week not only marks a significant milestone for the Ganal community but also serves as a vital opportunity to renew commitment to unity, reconciliation, and lasting peace across the region.
