Authorities in Agali Sub-county have raised alarm over escalating crime allegedly carried out by armed groups of youth, prompting the launch of a large-scale community policing operation.

The LC3 Chairperson of Agali Sub-county, Alex Okello, confirmed in an exclusive interview with Radio Wa FM that crime rates in the area have risen sharply in recent weeks. Okello, who also heads the Sub-county Security Committee, said leaders have received numerous complaints from residents concerning offenses such as theft, road ambushes, marijuana use, and nighttime drunkenness.

In response, the sub-county has intensified community policing across all trading centres and parishes. Okello identified several crime hotspots, including Pajero Trading Centre in Okile Parish, Ororo Village in Abongorwot Parish, and Anyapo Trading Centre in Apanylongo Parish.

He further revealed that authorities have resolved to introduce daytime patrols beginning at 10:00 a.m., targeting individuals found drinking alcohol and loitering in trading centres during official working hours.

Meanwhile, the LC2 Chairperson for Abongorwot and Ororo parishes, Geoffrey Okello, reported heightened insecurity linked to a youth group locally known as the “Go Forward Group.” The group, allegedly armed with pangas, knives, and other sharp objects, is accused of carrying out robberies and road ambushes, leaving residents in fear.

Agali Sub-county comprises seven parishes: Okile, Abongorwot, Apanylongo, Okum, Adyaka, Alyet, and Ocamonyang. Local leaders say they are working closely with security agencies and community members to restore law and order.
