Young Christians have been urged to remain steadfast in their faith and avoid worldly practices if they are to live according to the teachings of Christ.
The call was made by the Bishop of Lira Diocese, Rt. Rev. Sanctus Lino Wanok, while addressing members of the Young Christian Students (YCS) Movement during their annual rally held 10th July, 2026 at the Lira Diocese Ordination Grounds.
Bishop Wanok cautioned the students against engaging in practices such as corruption, alcohol abuse, and drug use, saying such behaviors distance believers from God and undermine Christian values. He encouraged the youth to remain committed to Christ and resist temptations that, he said, continue to influence society.
The bishop also discouraged the growing trend of establishing personal churches and religious groups, emphasizing that Christians should remain faithful to the teachings of Jesus Christ, whom he described as the true path to salvation.
Meanwhile, the Diocesan Coordinator of the Young Christian Students Movement, Alfred Olwit, highlighted the positive impact of the association in schools, noting that it has helped nurture discipline, moral values, and spiritual growth among learners.
Olwit said many students have strengthened their Christian faith through the YCS movement, enabling them to become responsible members of both the Church and society.
The Young Christian Students Rally is an annual event held during the second week of July, bringing together students from Catholic-founded schools across Lira Diocese for prayer, fellowship, and faith formation.
